Project work in progress (organising, planning, getting ready to make the video)
Main points to follow when preparing project (Video)
- Set Project Goals
- Brainstorm ideas
- Consider the timeline
- Define key scenes
- Decide on a level of detail
- Sketch out all Scenes. The Storyboard. Shot selections.
- Double check everything. Do it!
1. Thinking about the project goal, we always in any situation need to have a goal. Knowing what you want to achieve is an absolute must to be successful, no matter what you are doing. Then you need to create a plan/map for achieving it. As my business is new and it is Carpentry Company, I decided to do my first video as a little introduction to construction business, where Safety on a construction site should always come first, so I decided to do this for my first video. Main goals that I hope it will achieve are-
*show prospective clients (homeowners & builders) that we are company that cares about their workers, in this way showing the key values of our company, that is safety. So they can trust us to implement their projects.
*reminding workers to use these basic safety equipment to keep themselves safe, so this video has an educational function too
*to attract new staff, by seeing the video we might connect with new workers that might be interested to join our company.
2. Brainstorming ideas. Brainstorming is a first step in exploration phase of the project, it's important to be open to all ideas and possibilities. The team gathers together and writes down all the ideas regarding the project, in our case it's the video. In my case my team was my family members, husband, kids and sister. We all sat down together, thrown ideas on a page and discussed them from different points of view. It is a great way to generate large number of ideas. Here I'm after putting my brainstorming ideas for my project on a page.
3.Timeline for my video. Here I have to think about how long and in what order the scenes will be arranged in my video. As it just happens, I have about 8 main topics for my video and then the intro and outro scene, which makes it I have about 30 seconds for each of those, it looks easy to understand and plan ahead when making a video. See below my timeline.
4. Defining the key scenes was easy as they, are the scenes I already put on my timeline above. So these are:
- Intro scene
- Scenes about safety helmets
- Scenes about high visibility clothing
- Scenes about safety gloves
- Scenes about shoes
- Scenes about safety earmuffs
- Scenes about work trousers
- Scenes about safety mask, respirator
- Scenes about sun protection
- Outro scene with out contact details for our Social media platforms
5. Deciding on level of detail. I will be trying to keep my video interesting to watch, so I will try to use, video scenes, pictures and little bit of text. All of these I will try use fade in/out transfer between the scenes etc.
6. "Storyboard". It is a graphic representation of how the video will unfold, shot by shot. It will give you the idea how will the video look and the key scenes now are more visualized. I already sketched out my scenes on an A4 page. I think that's important stage, that you can't skip, it puts everything together before the video is filmed. Mine is really simple, but I already see the benefit of having it done.
Now I just have to do the video. Wish me luck! 😊
