Day 8

 TallaghtSocial Twitter shadowban update

Today we looked into our mysterious ban on our Twitter account @TallaghtSocial as it is still unknown what we did wrong that our account is still shadowbanned. As a part of investigation, teacher Brian opened up a new account @247meeja, he posted few tweets, followed few people and did a check whether it is shadowbanned and guess what!? It is! 😩 Conclusion to this, that if you open a new account on Twitter it might get shadowbanned, so that your post won't be visible to others. There is an advice Brian is giving us. Find an old account that is not in use anymore and by contacting the owner of it, ask them for permission to use it, rename it afterwards. Think about businesses that are gone out of business or see the accounts that are not active anymore. In this way you might get an account that is not shadowbanned. There is a lovely post from our Twitter account:

Image copyright

Then we talked about copyright, image licensing, use of pictures you find online. If you are using a photo for posting on social media, in general, if it is a private account then you won't be chased for that, but if it is a business/commercial account, then it is a different story, where you can get in trouble over using someone's photo image, then you might be asked to pay load of money. So it is a golden rule when you use pictures from internet for your posts, websites etc. you need to check the source, where this image comes from and if it is free to use. If you are business then source your images in a legitimate way. One simple way to check if the image is free to use:

Go to www.google.com→click on search by image button on the search bar→click on the tools→then usage rights→then Creative Commons license. See the little screenshot where I tried to show the process:

When you have found where the image comes from, then you can ask the owner for permission to use is, it's best to get permission in writing, like letter or email would do too.

Creative Commons (CC)

Then we looked at the website www.creativecommons.org .

Creative Commons licenses give everyone from individual creators to large institutions a standardized way to grant the public permission to use their creative work under copyright work. There are different types of licenses, see the image below.

No Repo-means no reproduction fee.

Podcast's 5W1H

We also learned more about Podcasts. 5W1H

Why? Audiostory telling-people really like it. It is very personal. Made specially for listeners, they can listen to the podcast at their suitable time and place. On the go, in transport, on the beach etc. Since the very start in year 2004. In the Twitter the podcasts have been growing but at very steady rate. We questioned the classmates, who listens and what kind of podcasts. Some weren't into podcasts listening some were very much into it. Some of them listen to Gabor Mate, Darren Conway etc.

How? Use Anchor. website www.anchor.fm owned now by Spotify. It's an easy to use podcasting platform. Upload an MP3 or Wav files. These can be conversations, dialogues, interviews. Do something that has life in it. You also need to plan ahead when starting podcasting. It's important to keep it interesting, so keep inviting new people to the podcasts.

Where? You can podcast anywhere, it can be at home, on the go, café or studio, all you need is to use your imagination. If needed there are special studios available to use, these are soundproofed boxed rooms, there is one available in Ballyfermot Library. Click here for more information : CreativeStudio

Who? You need to find yourself a podcast partner. Someone who would be complementing you in your podcast. Also think about what the conversations are going to be, it has to be something that won't dry out in about 20 conversations, something that can be versatile.

What? Podcast can be about whatever you like, but make sure to make it special enough to suit a small targeted audience. We are not huge media stars yet, so concentrating on small audience at the start is what Brian advised us to do.

When? Frequency is very important. Plan how often and which days are you going to air your podcasts. For example, "we are here for you every Friday" or "listen to us every Monday" and so on. Make sure to match your ability and stick to it. Another thing that people like in podcasts is the small intro music part at the start of the podcast and outro at the end, pick the good tune and don't change it.

In the podcasting, you have to be a little bit like a marmite-people either love or hate it, no in-betweens. Middle of the road is not good in social media. It has to be something radically different to be successful.

Another wise comment about podcasting from our teacher:
"Expect the sound of silence" you might not get any likes, views, attention at the start, it's tuff world, and competition in the social media nowadays is huge and you're up against everyone. You have to turn it on its head.

Make yourself a goal →define it, in your podcast don't do what masses are doing.
Have small expectations, let's say about 100 people. (these can be specific people like 10TDs, 10MEPs and so on, the people you think it can be important to hear it). Put your podcast on a memory stick and deliver to those people and your goal will be reached.

Canva.com

Another mention about Canva.com, the website that, like Brian said, is your swissknife in the forest. 🌳
This website is great, has plenty of tools for creating different things for your social media, podcasts etc. I will definitely try it out.

Negative side of Social Media

Then we watched video of Silverwolf , Social Media/Seeking attention & validation, about negative side of Social Media. Watch here:

He talks about things, that we as active social media users do not realize. We are buying peoples attention. Social Media is like a drug. We get addicted to attention on social media. In my opinion he is right in a lot of what he says. But on the other side if we control ourselves and use social media wisely and in moderation then it won't do any other than good.

ChatGPT

Lastly our homework for today from Brian is to look into something called ChatGPT, that is going to become super popular. Here is what I found out about this topic:

ChatGPT is an advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence) chatbot trained by OpenAI which interacts in conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow up questions, admit it's mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. It positions itself like a leading future search chat system.
