Day 18
Today is the day
This class we started with watching our project videos and one podcast. I was surprised the videos were really good. And the podcast was great too. I mean, the sound was so nice and clear, I think the studio recording did audio podcast sound very professional. Well done to everyone 👏
Teacher suggested to listen an audio book of Alan Henessy; "Solving the digital marketing jigsaw puzzle" Alan deep dives into the different chapters and explains in more detail what you can learn and implement into your Digital Visibility online.
Google keep 💡
Today we learned how to use a Google keep. Google Keep is a note-taking service included as part of the free, web-based Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google. While learning about social capital, social currency and Halo effect we got to know how to take notes and keep them all in the same place.
Useful tip from our teacher: Be inquisitive, be like a child, ask the question what it is? Then pin these notes in Google keep. So these stay safe here, and you can access these when needed. See my first few notes on Google Keep, I'm sure that now, that I know of this service, I will be using this handy little note keeping tool. See below my first few notes on it:
Social currency 💸
Social Capital
As a producer of your content you have to earn the trust of your audience. Social media-tap into it and make the most of it. Do something interesting, don't do "me too" (what everyone else does). In Social Media there are chambers of commerce, get out, mix and mingle and put it out on social media. Teacher mentioned the sample of great Social Media users The Happy Pear. As this was part of my portfolio where I investigated business and in detail described their social media, I was glad to hear their name from teacher. He said there must be exposure plan put in place if you are that active on many social media platforms.
Halo effect
When you want to get retweets, likes and comments, go to person who is good in your field and let them know who you are. Go out, go to parties, meet people, in one word socialise. In this way you build a network and tell about yourself and what you do. As an example teacher told us about old boys network (Black book of Blackrock University) those people can connect to each other even if in other country and assist in any way through this network.
One of our classmates highly recommended the marketing webinar of Stuart Ross that you can find on website www.LaunchYou.com As teacher said it's also an example of promoting something, as "word of mouth" is still huge.
But you have much greater opportunity in social media. Be unique as this is so important to stand out. As an example of this, teacher told us the way how Madonna did this, she was opposite to everything else, that is how she succeeded in her career. If we apply even a little bit of this to out social media, that will be great.
We also might get in touch with influencers and in this way getting on social media ladder. Put out your own propaganda, in this way you will have success.
Mistakes aren't something uncommon. What to do if you made a mistake?- own your mistake, tell about it, apologize. Now you've done it, no one can hit you with bad comments about it. I think it's great suggestion how do go on about mistakes in social media.
Social capital strategy
So we discussed a little how to build your social capital strategy when you are only starting your business.
First of all you need to own a little trust.
*Make 3 press releases.
*Go to family & friends first, as you don't have any followers just yet, so you have to start with what you got. Get support, free endorsement from you family and friends. This is real testimonial.
*do free gigs(or free products) depending from type of business
*educate the marketplace
*sample out your stuff→ play on connection
*embassies are network! Go to your countries embassy and try to get support there.
*do launch/press release/survey
as examples: in 2005 podcasting was very new, but there was steady growth, so to go in this direction was the way to go. Do weeding event in metaverse, livestream it online. do a survey with Survey Monkey (that is free for up to 10 questions) Ask something important, like how many accidents happen on sites, how many wet days etc. Ask outrageous questions, like what would it take to get builders back from Australia.
Social Proof
As an example of social proof ,teacher mentioned Scottish singer Sandi Thom and her song "I wish I was a punk rocker" see below:
Ask yourself at what point are you going to be everdeveloping?
Teacher mentioned Freuds "Ego" theory :
*The id is the "horse". It is the unevolved instinctive part of our brain, responsible for the urges and desires we try to repress.
*The ego is the "driver" of the chariot, and the rational part of our brain. It is able to guide the id, but never has full control - just as the driver is aware that if the horse wants to go in a different direction, he is ultimately powerless to stop it.
*The superego is the chariot driver's father, sitting behind him, pointing out his mistakes. It is the part of our brain responsible for criticism and moralising.
Teacher also suggested reading John Maxwell books on how to make yourself stronger. As it is very important to developing yourself. Sometimes it is good to detoxing off social media(make a breaks where you don't use social media at all. Only with discipline you can achieve this.
We also talked about how easy it is to damage your reputation and lose it all by just doing one thing wrong. But there is a way back. For instance one very popular Irish Radio personality Bazz Ashmawy has once had a drink driving incident and because of it , he was suspended from radio. But that wasn't the end of his successful media career, he did bounce back. Baz's TV show 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy won the International Emmy Award for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment award. Check out the Pat O'Mahony's podcast with Baz talking about his story.
