Day 16

 Editing Tallaght Social Media website

Today we started our class with editing our Social Media website main title by using some CSS codes, that are totally unknown for me. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is the code that styles web content. Here are few samples:

#000 or #000000- black colour

#fff or #ffffff-white colour

 <h1> Welcome </h1>

Our group video 📹

Today we were watching, analyzing and editing our group video that we filmed on previous class. We used the Veed.io online video editing suite. Super easy and user friendly tool for people who, just like us aren't professionals in this field, just yet .😏 Check this out. I also amended a little bit here, with few things that we learned in the class.

Rule of thirds 1..2..3

Positioning: you should always divide your video image in thirds both vertically and horizontally, it's also called a rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is an effective way to frame the elements in your scene so that the resulting image is much more visually captivating.
When you position the most important elements of your image at these intersections, you produce a much more natural image. It is also suggested that any horizon is placed on either the top horizontal line or bottom horizontal line. Off-center composition is pleasing to the eye because it’s typically where the eyes go first. When there is a subject or object off center, it also gives viewers the ability to interact with that space between them. This allows for interpretation and conversation between the subject and the background, as opposed to a fully centered subject.

Subtitles

Subtitles make videos more accessible to a wider audience, including foreign-language speakers, hard-of-hearing individuals, and anyone who can't watch a video with sound. They also help improve engagement and boost SEO for content producers.
To add the subtitles to your video on Veed.io follow these steps:
Select the video clip→click on the subtitles button on the left side(toolbar)→click auto subtitles→choose the language→create subtitles, and that's it, the subtitles are added to your video automatically. The subtitles are very accurate, but if necessary these can be manually edited.

Adding text or logo

It helps your audience follow the message even when the sound is off. Sometimes, it conveys the message even better than an image, and it definitely helps the video to be more engaging, understandable, and clear. To add text to your video, simply click on the Text button on the toolbar, you can choose from some templates and edit it to your own text, or just do it from scratch. Then you can move where you want your text to be located and make it bigger or smaller by dragging the corner of your text box.

Adding elements

I also asked a question how teacher added a border, it's actually called the progression bar. You just click on elements button and add the one suits the best. Here you can choose colours, also add emojis, gifs, frames, sound waves and even more. There is no limit to creativity.

Adding audio

Audio is one of the most important parts of the video. To add audio just click on the Audio button on the toolbar. Here you can either add your own music track or pick the stock audio, which we did and picked the most suitable background music. You need to adjust the volume, by highlighting the audio and reducing the volume, in our case the best sound volume is about 15%. See our video below:

At the very end I added the Facebook and telephone elements with contact details. Enjoy!

Unwanted comments

We had a look at a sample Twitter post, where Tommy Tiernan was interviewing an Ukrainian model. The concept of this show is that Tommy Tiernan doesn't know who he will be interviewing until the person arrives in the studio. People like those kind of shows.

86k views, 44comments and out of  all comments 4 were good. Where all the rest were bad comments. The question is, if something like this happened on your post with many negative, hateful comments, what would you do? What would be the best action? One of the best solutions Brian has given us advice is to Turn off listening. Not always we need the comments for our posts. To save yourself from those kind of posts, you can moderate your comments, so that nobody can comment or only people that are following can comment. I think it's a good advice, and it's great way of preventing of getting loads of unnecessary comments on your posts.

Statistics

Talking about our pages content, another topic to be conscious of is statistics. You always watch and analyze the statistics on your page. Website analytics are a useful tool in optimizing your website performance by highlighting how users are interacting with your data. Not only does it allow you to understand how well your website is performing, but it provides insightful data about your visitors. Without traffic, a website is useless, and the only way to know about the traffic is through statistics. Your stats will give you information on the number of users and how many are unique or return users. These are one of the most popular analysing tools:

*Google Analytics
*Webalizer
*Statcounter
*AWStats
*Clicky

Creating campaign

You might have a great idea, but that doesn't mean it will succeed. But you have to try. For example there were Oscars ceremony at the weekend. Use your social listening, be aware what's going on in the world now, especially if it is relevant to you. Go and create a social campaign. Get over to the people that have some connections, get some interviews, some content. As an example our teacher Brian showed us the website Pirate.ie, that contributed in a little way in the movie that is one of the Oscars nominees- An Cailín Ciúin. See the Twitter post below:

Legal Disclaimer

We also talked about this very important topic-Irish legal website disclaimer. Do you need to have a disclaimer on your website? The simple and only answer to this-YES! you need a disclaimer on your website. Disclaimers protect your business against legal liability by saying that you won't be held responsible for how people use your site, or for any damages they suffer as a result of your content. Use them to your advantage. Keep them short and simple. They are put in place to protect you. For example, if you have a website or page and it identifies where customer is located, by tracing IP address, you need to have a disclaimer and need to get a permission. Let's do a cookie disclaimer on our TallaghtSocial.com website. If you have a WordPress website follow these easy steps:

Click plugins→add new plugin→search Cookiebot(or any other cookie plugin)→install→activate→go to dashboard where you adjust settings to your needs, like we clicked on GDPR, as this is important for our website. See below our newbie to our website, cookie consent pop up window.

We also talked about sample where a website, one of the social media platforms-Facebook, uses their cookies and adds some details to links to track even outside their website. They added to RIP.ie website link, that made this link invalid. 😡 I think there should be limits to what is allowed to be tracked.

Let's be responsible and create disclaimers for our websites.
