Day 13

 Etsy

A quick roundup about opening an Etsy account at the previous class. As it turned out it wasn't that straight forward to open here account. ๐Ÿ˜•Also they charge more than expected. They charge €0.20 for adding product, if it doesn't sell in 4 months then for renewing ad they charge €0.20, and so on every 4 months, and that is only for 1 product. Further if the item sell they charge another €0.20 also it's 6.5% credit card fees. Teacher opened the account as an experiment, as it is a simple way to get a feedback about your product. But Etsy is very protective of their space. Important questions to ask about your product are: what?(product) and why? is the product interesting. If you don't get answer on one platform, then go and try other platforms.

Content Calendars

We also learned about how to plan your content, there are content calendars available to try on Hootsuite.com & Hubspot.com. With so many different social networks to manage, it can be tricky to plan which content to share at what time, and on which platform. Content calendars help to manage and plan your social media content, making your social marketing more effective. You can have plans for all your Social media platforms all in one space. Basically these calendars help you schedule your social media campaigns, posts. Also you can get reminders and alerts to do these in time. Conclusion we came to is that measuring things and having a plan for your social media is really good for business.๐Ÿ‘ But if you are only starting and your business is small, maybe putting up your content in organic way is also good enough for you until you grow your business. See the sample of  this kid of calendar.

Tweetdeck

Tonight Brian also demonstrated how to use Tweetdeck. So what is Tweetdeck? It is a really powerful tool to manage your Twitter accounts, especially if you have many of them.
Tweetdeck offers a more convenient Twitter experience by letting you view multiple timelines in one easy interface. It includes a host of advanced features to help get the most of Twitter: Manage multiple Twitter accounts, schedule Tweets for posting in the future, build Tweet collections, and more. Teacher scheduled a tweet for our TallaghSocial Twitter account to be posted during our class. We also learned that you need to have correct date and time on your PC to set the right day and time for your post. As teachers computer time and date wasn't set correctly, we had to set it. Just go to the search bar beside the start button and search for→Set date & time→ then choose the correct time zone and you're done. See below this tweet that Brian scheduled on the Tweetdeck:

Also on your Tweetdeck you can search for the information you're interested in, for example, we searched for the term Shamrock Rovers, and we could see all the posts not only from the official Shamrock Rovers account, but also where other people were mentioning them in their posts. In this way we can find out interesting news about the Shamrock Rovers. I went on a Tweetdeck and tried doing the same, find the picture below:

Also on Tweetdeck you can like someone's post from different accounts easy just by clicking three dots button and then pick from which account you want to like the post.

Boolean search

A Boolean search uses specific words and symbols known as Boolean operators (e.g., AND, OR) alongside keywords to limit or expand search results. They connect your search words together to either narrow or broaden your set of results. The three basic boolean operators are: AND, OR, and NOT. For example if you are searching for 2 word combination then always put quotation marks before and after, like "Shamrock Rovers" OR Tallaght- this is what we searched.

SEO and ranking in Google search

We also had a look on one of our classmates John's website, this is really nice looking website, but talking about SEO(search engine optimization) it can be improved. Brian suggested few things to improve it's ranking in google search. Website is called www.2guitarsdublin.com and as my classmate is playing a lot on weddings, there should be separate landing page called "weddings" . Then this page should be linked and mentioned on different Social Media platforms. In this way it should be easier to find for people searching a wedding musician. Another thing that is very important is the Title. By choosing the right title, it will help to rank you higher on Google search.

Social Listening

If you don’t have a social listening strategy, you’re missing out on some of the most valuable data available to help build your business. So what is social listening? Social listening is the practice of monitoring social media channels for mentions of your brand, competitor brands, and related keywords.
Through social listening, you can track every mention of your brand on social media in real-time. This will give you valuable insights into how customers feel about your products or services, what their main points are, and what they’d like to see from you in the future. In this way we keep updated what is happening around us, so we can create relevant and interesting content.

Ed Balls day ๐Ÿ˜€

On 28 April 2011, Ed Balls, urged by an assistant to search Twitter for a recent article about himself, accidentally entered his intended search term in the wrong box and sent a tweet reading only "Ed Balls". The tweet was retweeted by thousands; Balls was unaware that it was possible to delete tweets. The tweet has never been deleted. The incident is now celebrated as "Ed Balls Day" every 28 April. Basically he did nothing wrong, as anyone should be searching about themselves, either it's brand,
business to check their reputation on Internet. In case if there is something bad said, critics, you shouldn't get upset, rise above it, for your own mental health. Depends on the situation, it could be laughed about in this way it's an easy way to overcome it.

Evergreen content

What is Evergreen Content? Evergreen content is search-optimized content that is continually relevant and stays “fresh” for readers over a long period of time. If you think of a evergreen tree, like a pine tree ๐ŸŒฒ, that no matter the weather and season it always stays green. Same with the content.  Evergreen content should always be there. You have to find some content that will never go out of date. Then you can reuse it. New people will see it and you might get orders on your product or service. Some good samples my classmates thought of are evergreen content is Forever Sale (I should have thought of this๐Ÿ˜ฏ), 1st dance music, or red lipstick that is always popular. Brian gave us example of an "Ladybird book of Shed" that can be purchased and few pages can be read. It's and intelligently written comedy.

There are few evergreen options:
How-to guides: These are well-written and researched posts, that provide information your readers need all at one place.
List posts: Usually gets high traffic and audience retention rate, as they are to-the-point and quick to read and digest.
Case study: Readers like to hear more about personal experiences and happenings, than theoretical explanations.
Glossary posts: Explains the meaning definitions of special terms and acronyms in your niche.
Personal stories: The humanistic approach in blog posts works great.
Content curation: Summing up all the rocking content in your niche, along with some added flavor.
Checklists: List of things, to-dos, for achieving/completing a task effectively.
Interviews: Interview famous influencers in your niche, and get thousands of shares and open the traffic floodgate.

Being first and last

Social Media is about attention and time. Being first to break the news and last to confirm. Any content is ever shortening. It has very short lifespan. When creating the content for social media, relevancy is very important. Do not post something that you don't want your spouse, boss or granny to find out. Keep in mind that it might be possible to find. As an example teacher told us about when Michael Jackson died, News Networks wanted to be first to report and last to confirm, this meant that audience stayed longer with the story.

Be gregarious

Being gregarious means to be social, friendly and outgoing. We looked at an amazing example of such account on Twitter, we looked at Zwartbles Ireland This person Suzanna Crampton is blanket designing shepherd and farmer, photographer and much more. She also has a website  ZwartblesIreland.com where you can find her shop, of wool, blankets, postcards and calendars. What is amazing is that apart from managing busy farm life, Suzanna has time to post nearly every hour.In total she has 232.5K tweets on Twitter. She is everconnected with her followers. It's fantastic example of gregarious person. She finds content all around her. Check out some of her beautiful posts:

Also referred as Report your world, this is one of the strategies for business. Where you become a specialist in a niche connected to your industry. Blog, write, post as an expert, go deep into your niche. The content association with your business will bring your business via organic traffic.

Content is all around us, we just have to get up and find it. It might be harder if you are in the city, but still possible. Teacher told us of an example- Brandon Stanton creator of "Humans of New York" interviews with thousands of people in the city of New York. Your story can grow into commerce(you can start selling something that you create).

Brian suggested a website- Snopes.com where you can check whether the fact is real. As we live in an era of fake news(misleading data) it can be very useful to check if what we are reading/ seeing true.

Double Irish Dutch sandwich

The term “Double Irish Dutch Sandwich” is used to describe a complex corporate tax avoidance strategy that is used by some of the world’s largest multinational companies. The strategy involves routing profits through a series of subsidiaries located in low-tax jurisdictions in order to reduce the overall tax liability. The strategy gets its name from the fact that profits are first routed through an Irish company, then through a Dutch company, and then back to an Irish company before being repatriated to the parent company.

Facebook page for business

Then lastly we learned a little bit more about creating a business page on Facebook. This is what I am doing for my assignment, so I thought it was very useful for me. Brian told us that as much information has to be filled in to look better. As much action buttons, like email address, phone number. Teacher also added WhatsApp button on his page, that we also tested straight away and in this way you can receive the messages with queries and orders straight to your WhatsApp. Mind you, if you can not answer quite promptly, then it's suggested to set contact button with email, because expected time for emails to be answered can be couple of days. Update, at least twice. Then we also looked in insights, which give you some statistics on your posts, like post reach, post engagement, new page likes and new followers.
Let's make our Facebook pages complete and successful!๐Ÿ’ช
